Akpeyi, Ejuke, Sadiq Take Super Eagles’ Camp Arrivals To Six Players

The arrivals of Kaizer Chiefs of South Africa goalkeeper, Daniel Akpeyi, CSKA Moscow of Russia winger, Chidera Ejuke and Almeria of Spain striker, Umar Sadiq took the number of players in the Super Eagles’ camp to six.

Akpeyi, Sadiq and Ejuke stormed the Eagles’ pre-Nations Cup camp in Abuja on Thursday, some 24 hours after the arrivals of Orlando Pirates of South Africa defender, Olisa Ndah, Union Berlin of Germany striker, Taiwo Awoniyi and Enyimba of Aba goalkeeper, John Noble.

Megasportsarena.com reports that, while Ndah, Noble and Awoniyi appeared on Wednesday, the opening day of camping, the number of players in camp doubled with the arrivals of Sadiq, Akpeyi and Ejuke the following day.

Of the sextet, only Akpeyi has previously appeared at the Africa Cup of Nations, as he was the Eagles’ first choice keeper at the last tournament two years ago in Egypt, during which he saw action in five of seven matches, en route to Nigeria’s third place finish.

Akpeyi is the oldest player on the list of 28 invitees for Cameroon 2021, but his shaky form last time out in Egypt and the emergence of Emil Maduka Okoye means he may not be in goal when the Eagles open group play on January 11.

The three-time champions will first play against seven-time winners and 2019 hosts, Egypt, before going on to face former African lords Sudan on January 15 and finish the group phase against minnows Guinea-Bissau four days later.
