Union Berlin of Germany striker, Taiwo Awoniyi has found another lofty commendation added to his growing status, as the UAE 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup gold medalist is not rated at a huge market value of 15m euro, megasportsarena.com reports.
This is in contrast with his previous mark of 8m euro, as a recent spree of personal strides with his club and a cap with the Super Eagles have boosted the former youth international, who never played a single match after signing for Liverpool in 2015.
The deal with Liverpool became only symbolic for the product of Imperial Football Academy of Odogbolu, Ogun State, as The Reds loaned him out severally to FSV Frankfurt and SV Mainz of Germany, NEC Nijmegen of Netherlands as well as KAA Gent and Royal Excel Mouscron of Belgium.
Another loan deal with Union Berlin soon materialized into the biggest individual lift for Awoniyi at club level and that has now transformed into additional marks for him on the pitch and in the latest statistics released by Transfermarkt.
The world renowned value chart has now placed Awoniyi on an elevated scale of more than double his previous status, with the newly capped Nigerian senior international soaring on the portal’s updated market values of players in the English Premier League and German Bundesliga.
Joining Awoniyi on the elevated scale is another new player in the Super Eagles, Frank Ogochukwu Onyeka, who plays for Brentford of England, as regular action in the EPL sees the former FC Ebedie of Shagamu and FC Midtjylland of Denmark central midfielder now valued at a career high 10m euro.
That, though, is the same fee for which Brentford bought him from Midtjylland in July 2021, since which he has been involved in 18 matches across all competitions with The Bees and a total 898 minutes of action.
While Onyeka is now the seventh most expensive player at Brentford player, he is ninth among all Nigerians and 249th most valuable player in the EPL, well ahead of Watford center back and Super Eagles’ assistant captain, William Troost-Ekong.
A dip in form for club and country in recent months sees Troost-Ekong stuck at 5m euro, which makes him the ninth most valuable player at Watford and 23rd Nigerian, but well below the new status of Awoniyi, who has reached his highest market value ever.
Awoniyi, who has scored ten goals in domestic matches and four in European competition for Union Berlin so far this season, will now hope to transform his club form and market value into telling marks with the Super Eagles at next month’s Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
