Two Nigerian strikers, Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo (Simy) and Isaac Success will be playing for new clubs in the Italian Serie A, they have sealed summer transfer deals in the Land of The Azzurri.
Megasportsarena.com reports that, while Success has left Watford of England for a deal with Udinese, Simy makes the move from relegated Crotone to newly promoted Salernitana.
Both strikers, will therefore, feature for clubs that have strong Nigerian traditions, as Udinese previously had Christian Ndubuisi Obodo, Odion Jude Ighalo and William Troost-Ekong on their cards, while Salernitana have had Benjamin Chukwuka Onwuachi, Emmanuel Sani and Seyifunmi Adeleke.
Simy becomes the latest Nigerian star to get a deal with Salernitana, where had a routine medical on Thursday morning, but his deal is only on loan with obligation to buy for a total of €6m.
Before making the move, the 29-year-old giant striker had been linked with Monza, Udinese and Bologna of Italy, Real Mallorca of Spain and Tottenham Hotspur of England, but was eager to remain in Italy that has been his home since 2016.
His new club stated: “The US Salernitana 1919 announces that it has reached an agreement with FC Crotone for the temporary transfer with the obligation to redeem the striker class ’92 Simeon Tochukwu Nwankwo. The player will wear the number 25 shirt.”
On the other hand, Success has agreed to join Udinese this summer, after the Udine-based side and Watford agreed a deal for the UAE 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup-winning hitman, who had been reluctant to leave The Hornets.
The 25-year-old product of BJ Foundation of Benin City was initially determined to fight for his place at Vicarage Road, despite the influx of attacking options available to The Hornets’ coach, Xisco Munoz, who also added Emmanuel Dennis Bonaventure to his roster this summer.
However, Success knew he had to move on when the club’s top brass made it clear to him that he was surplus to requirements and a report by Watford Observer revealed that the former Granada of Spain hitman reluctantly agreed to join their sister club.
Consequently, while talks are continuing regarding the finer details of the deal, a full contract is expected to be announced before the window closes under two weeks, thereby opening a new vista for Success, who made only 10 appearances in the English Championship last season.
Success’ outings with Watford have been curtailed all along by injuries, which again recurred in the past campaign, when he was out of action for almost a year with a lacerated Achilles tendon complaint and he ended up netting a single goal all through the season.
