West Ham could swoop for an Italian second-tier striker. According to Tutto Mercato Web, West Ham have joined the hunt for Spezia striker David Okereke.
London rivals Crystal Palace were linked with Okereke in January alongside Belgian side Standard Liege. Now it seems West Ham have entered the race.
This report notes that West Ham have carefully followed Okereke’s progress. And in the coming weeks, West Ham could firm up their interest with a bid.
Okereke plays for Spezia in Serie B – Italy’s second division. This season, the 21-year-old has impressed with a total of 10 goals in 30 games. He also has 12 assists this season.
The Nigerian striker has spent his entire senior career in Italy, coming through the ranks at Spezia and spending time on loan at Cosenza. He also has represented Nigeria at U23 level.
Spezia are currently preparing for their Serie B play-off campaign after finishing sixth in the league. They face Cittadella on Friday as they bid to reach the top-flight.
But if Spezia remain in Serie B, Okereke could be tempted by a move to England. West Ham could offer him Premier League football.
According to transfermarkt, Okereke’s contract lasts until 2022. But could he be West Ham’s striker for the future?
