SSC Napoli of Italy striker, Victor Osimhen has learnt that his tentative date for a return to action from injury is January 16, which means he may not play at the Africa Cup of Nations.
Megasportsarena.com reports that this is in contrast with initial enthusiasm that was raised when his club’s medics disclosed that the young striker was recovering faster than expected.
The outlook then had been that he could be back playing once again before the end of this year and make the Super Eagles’ squad to AFCON 2022 in Cameroon.
However, that now appears very doubtful, as latest information on offer from Naples indicates that the earliest date of Osimhen’s return to action is January 16, when his side tango Bologna in the Italian Serie A.
This is despite heartwarming news that the Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup top scorer, who broke his cheekbone during a Serie A match against Inter Milan on November 21, is already back in personalized training.
That came against the backdrop of initial reports that his estimated absence would be up to three months, as recent developments indicate he is coming back faster and would be able to participate in full training with a protective mask.
A report by Italian sports daily, Tuttosport via Tuttonapoli added: “The Nigeria international has started training with a mask but it’s only a temporary protection that he will have to use until Tuesday when the final carbon one will be delivered to him.
“It is being speculated that the date of the striker’s potential return to action is January 16 when Napoli trade tackles with Bologna.”
