Two fantastic goals from Asisat Oshoala and seven more strikes from six other players saw Barcelona record their biggest ever win in European football as they decimated Benfica 9-0 in the Women’s UEFA Champions League match on Wednesday night, reports Megasportsarena.com.
Nigeria forward, Oshoala, who was named the Player of the Match after her two goals and two assists in the game, set up Patricia Guijarro and Aitana Bonmatí early on before getting on the scoresheet herself with a superb long-range strike in the 34th minute.
And she got her goal in some style too, picked up a loose ball 30 metres out, took a touch out of her feet and blasted a brilliant shot into the top corner. Spectacular!
Mariona Caldentey’s solo effort made it four early in the second half, before she teed up Ana-Maria Crnogorčević for number five.
Oshoala’s teammate in the Nigerian national team, Super Falcons, Christy Ucheibe came on in the 71st minute for Andreia Norton but couldn’t stop the slide as more goals rained in.
Geyse Ferreira came off the bench to net the sixth against her former club and Clàudia Pina tucked home the seventh, before Caldentey brilliantly set up Oshoala for number eight in the 84th minute of the match.
Benfica are sloppy in possession and present the ball to Caldentey, who did absolutely brilliantly on the left, skipped past two players, including the keeper, and then stretched to keep the ball in and rolled it to Oshoala, who tapped in.
Geyse headed in the ninth to cap a memorable UEFA competition debut as Barcelona recorded their biggest ever European win.
