Rayo Vallecano of Spain’s January signing, Uche Agbo lasted only 29 minutes of his club’s latest match in La Liga, but bowed out in agony, as the team were relegated from the Spanish top-flight, after losing 4-1 away to Moses Simon’s Levante, megasportsarena.com reports.
While Agbo went for an early bath, with what appeared to be a muscle injury, Simon was replaced in the 79th minute, but he had done enough to ensure his side made the best of home advantage to carry the day.
Defeat for Agbo’s team means Rayo Vallecano were relegated from La Liga alongside Huesca, such that the Super Eagles’ fringe player’s arrival on loan from Standard Liege of Belgium did not yield desired dividends.
Sadly, Vallecano’s relegation was sealed early Saturday, following Real Valladolid’s 1-0 home win against Athletic Bilbao.
Los Franjirrojos then fell to Levante and their ill fate was then virtually secured by Celta Vigo’s home win against Barcelona.
Paco Jemez’s side had given themselves hope of escaping an immediate return to the second tier with a 1-0 win over Real Madrid on April 28 but it proved too little, too late.
Girona, beaten 2-0 at Getafe, occupy the final relegation place with two rounds of games to go, but Valladolid – now part-owned by Brazil great Ronaldo – are only a point clear.
