Great expectations of former Super Eagles invitee, Uche Agbo becoming the next Nigerian player to feature for KAA Gent of Belgium have fallen flat, after the defender-cum-midfielder failed his medicals with the top-flight club, where he was to have signed a four-year contract, megasportsarena.com reports.
Agbo had been touted to step into the shoes of Anderson Esiti at Gent, thereby following the footsteps of the club’s other Nigerian players, like Moses Simon and Samuel Kalu, but his mission to continue the tradition has not materialised, due to health reasons.
The report out of Belgium indicates that Agbo’s hope of joining Gent was dashed after he failed the routine medical and physical test, which came in the wake of earlier setbacks for the 23-year-old star last season while on loan at Rayo Vallecano of Spain, where he was out for several weeks.
Afterwards, Agbo also failed to feature in pre-season back at his parent club, Standard Liege of Belgium because he was nursing an injury, such that the soft-spoken battler, who was unable to keep Vallecano in the Spanish top-flight last term, will have to look around for a new team.
Before now, Agbo was close to sealing a return to Granada of Spain, who were recently promoted back to La Liga, but his expected return did not see light of the day and he has also missed out on the chance of joining the Nigerian duo of Rueben Yem and Philip Azango at Gent.
