Udinese of Italy defender, William Troost-Ekong has declared that he aims to continue searching for ways through which he will be able to work more on his fitness and tactical levels, in order to ensure he keeps improving his game and churns out better performances with each passing match, megasportsarena.com reports.
Despite having already cemented his place in the Udine-based Serie A club’s main team since joining them two summers ago, the former Tottenham Hotspur of England youth team player says he cannot afford to rest on his oars, as he wants to be better than ever.
That would appear to be a candid reaction to recent turmoil he faced at the club he joined from Bursaspor of Turkey, after a short spell with KAA Gent of Belgium, as the Super Eagles’ stopper faced some steep moments in search of regular playing time in the first half of the current season in The Land of The Azuzrri.
His struggles came on account of a bout with injury and some disciplinary issues, but Troost-Ekong has now used the occasion of International Day of Sport for Development and Peace 2020 to reiterate his determination to keep improving and ensure he keeps his place in the squad.
Speaking against the backdrop of the United Nation’s sanctioned celebrations for development and peace on Monday, Troost-Ekong, who switched allegiance to Nigeria after earlier playing at youth level for the country of his birth, Holland, and the fast-rising central defender, who is now Super Eagles’ assistant captain, spoke about the importance of football in his life.
He revealed how delighted he is playing football at the highest level, especially with the ample opportunities he has of travelling to different countries and meet people from diverse callings, backgrounds, mentalities and nationalities.
Troost-Ekong told Udinese’s website: “Football is my passion and I consider myself lucky to have done my job. Being an athlete is a lifestyle I am dedicated to. Competition and the constant search for new ways to improve myself, perform better and win have become my life goals
“It gave me the opportunity to travel around the world, to get to know different cultures and discover other lifestyles. Football has been a part of my life for many years and has given me several fantastic moments. These high-level sports experiences will have a positive impact on the rest of my life. ”
