FC1 Union Berlin of Germany striker, Taiwo Awoniyi is relishing the verve that saw him continue his amazing goals scoring spree in the German Bundesliga, as he netted yet again for his side on Friday, megasportsarena.com reports.
In the wake of his latest goal in the German too-flight the former youth international, who signed for Liverpool of England in 2015 but was loaned out several times without playing a single match for The Reds, admitted he is excited with the turnaround that has uplifted his career.
Such it was that the product of Imperial Football Academy of Odogbolu in Ogun State was on song in his side’s 2-1 victory over RB Leipzig at Stadion An der Alten Försterei in Berlin.
In helping his side climb to fourth position on the log, Awoniyi fired past Leipzig’s goalkeeper, Peter Gulacsi at the back post to open the scoring after a dangerous ball into the box by Julian Ryerson in the sixth minute.
Nkunku equalised for the visitors with a brilliant shot from 30 yards out, seven minutes after Awoniyi broke the deadlock, but Baumgartl fired home from close range to seal the hosts’ victory in the 57th minute.
Awoniyi had a good chance to double the advantage in the 63rd minute but a wayward header prevented the former youth international from adding to his haul of 14 goals in all competitions and two assists in 23 matches.
