SV Mainz 05 of Germany striker, Taiwo Awoniyi has lost his place in the Bundesliga club’s main team simply because he could not make the best use of opportunities giving him to shine in the team, and his future now lies in a limbo, megasportsarena.com reports.
The is the down-to-earth verdict of Mainz’s sports director, Rouven Schröder, who admitted that the lad on loan from Liverpool of England is neither here nor there is terms of the next port of call, where he will ply his trade in the second half of the season.
Although Schröder stopped short of categorically saying Awoniyi is set to cancel his loan at Mainz and seek another club within the time still available for such deals, he hinted that the Nigerian striker is not in the plans of the club’s gaffer, Achim Beierlorzer.
It means Awoniyi, who has previously played on loan at MSV Frankfurt of Germany, NEC Nijmegen of Holland as well as Royal Excel Mouscron and KAA Gent can still move out of Mainz in the coming days, as the winter market is still open in Israel, Austria, Serbia, Croatia, Poland, Ukraine, Switzerland, Russia, Czech Republic, and USA.
That would be another blow for Awoniyi, who had been hoping to finally get his breakthrough in England or keep playing in one of the top-flight leagues across central Europe, but a loan move is now on the cards for him in a smaller league, after Schröder disclosed that the UAE 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup gold medalist failed to click since his arrival in Germany last summer.L
Schröder told Kicker: “There were and there are opportunities, but ultimately Liverpool FC and its management have the final decision. Unfortunately did not use his chances effectively. Now he is of course giving everything, with the competition ahead of him at the moment.”
