Esther Okoronkwo’s 87th-minute strike guaranteed Nigeria’s qualification to the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations, Morocco 2022.

The Super Falcons qualified 3-0 on aggregate after their 1-0 win in Abidjan on Wednesday.

The Nigerian ladies had beaten the Lady Elephants of Cote d’Ivoire 2-0 in the first leg in Abuja last Friday.

Goalkeeper Chiamaka Nnadozie pulled off a stunning save to deny the Ivorians from the spot in the 33rd minute of the match.

Nigeria had a goal disallowed in the 44th minute. The lively Francesca Ordega thought she had given the team the lead but the Nigerien referee ruled it out.

Barely a minute to the end, Esther Okoronkwo, winning only her second cap for Nigeria, scored the back-breaker that confirmed a 3-0 aggregate win for the Super Falcons.

Victory and qualification for Morocco 2022 was sweet revenge over the Lady Elephants, who bumped the Falcons on the road to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics.

The Super Falcons will be playing in their 12th Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.
