Glasgow Rangers of Scotland midfielder, Joe Aribo has declared that he and his colleagues in the Super Eagles are eager to go all the way to the trophy at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon, megasportsarena.com reports.
While basking in the delight of what he called the splendid atmosphere in Cameroon, where he first visited for the Eagles’ World Cup qualifier against Central African Republic (CAR), Aribo stressed that he is feeling at home in the Nigerian camp.
The former Charlton Athletic of England dazzler, who is being sought by a couple of clubs in the English Premier League in the January transfer window, added that his personal target is to win the AFCON 2021 title on February 6.
Although he admitted it will not be an easy task, Aribo, who is wearing Nigeria’s iconic jersey number 10 in Garoua and got his AFCON debut in the opening Group D game against Egypt, enthused that the title will be in the Eagles’ grip at the end of the championship.
Incidentally, it was Aribo’s piercing pass that gave Kelechi Iheanacho the chance of scoring Nigeria’s opening goal of this year’s AFCON, which is reflective of his declaration that they would be relying on a lot of teamwork to make the title-winning dream become a reality.
Following their dazzling start to the game at Roumdé Adjia Stadium, Garoua on Tuesday, the 25-year-old Aribo stressed that the Eagles are not in Cameroon to make up the numbers, as they want to win their fourth African title on February 6.
The youngster, who has scored six goals and provided three assists in 20 outings in the Scottish Premiership, got his 13th cap for Nigeria three months after helping the Eagles defeat CAR 2-0 in Douala and declared that the atmosphere in Garoua has boosted the team’s focus.
Aribo told OGTV Abeokuta: “It is a lovely city, everyone in the team is happy with the facilities. Everyone is enjoying it.
“We’ve got to take every single moment as it comes. We have come here, we don’t want to just participate; we want to go all the way.
“We want to do what we can do and that’s what I want to do. I’m here to give my best and see where it takes us.”
