The immediate past top scorer in the Nigeria Professional Football League (NPFL), Silas Nwankwo has sealed an international transfer from Nasarawa United of Lafia to Mjallby AIF of Sweden.
Megasportsarena.com reports that Nwankwo’s new club, who feature in the Swedish Allsvenskan and are based in Hallevik, confirmed their acquisition of the teenager on a contract that will run until 2025.
This comes less than a year after Nwankwo’s heroics in front of goal last season saw him win the NPFL golden boot, having finished level with Charles Atshimene of Akwa United of Uyo on 19 goals but with more of his sizzlers coming from open play.
Nwankwo, who styles himself after Portuguese ace, Cristiano Ronaldo, while citing Marcus Rashford and Paul Pogba as players he would like to line up with in future, is already setting tongues aflame at the Swedish side.
Such is the delight being expressed by Mjallby’s sports director, Hasse Larsson, who revealed that his team decided to sign Nwankwo is due to the lad’s impressive records in front of goal and the huge potentials he continues to show.
Larsson stated with glee: “It is clear if you look at his merits as an 18-year-old in a high-speaking language, it is impressive.
“But we are also impressed by his top qualities both in the wrong turn with his size, but also by his ability to manage goal chances to goal in the offensive penalty area.
“A player who will need time, so with a longer contract, we believe that Silas, in the long run, can really make a difference for the club.”
