Calvin Bassey is excited that he made his full debut for Ajax and played the full 90 minutes in the clash with Sparta, Megasportsarena.com reports.
The match would finish 1-0 with fellow summer signing Steven Bergwijn netting the only goal of the match to send Ajax top of the Eredivisie after three games.
The centre back tweeted after the game.
“Thank God. Blessing to make my full debut for @afcajax Good to get a win and clean sheet we keep working.”
Meanwhile, Ajax coach Alfred Schrueder was also quick to warn the Nigerian defender to more careful about his tackles especially in the box.
“You can see that he is extremely strong and he really wants to enter the duels physically. That is also good, but you have to do that at times when it cannot become dangerous for us. You have to be careful with that, especially in the sixteen. And you also have to watch out for tackles in the Netherlands.”
Bassey, who missed Ajax first two league games after a red card in the Dutch Super Cup versus PSV, played on the left side of central defence, and displayed power, speed and aerial dominance throughout the duration of the match.
He posted 97% pass accuracy, won two tackles, made seven recoveries and had 110 touches of the ball.
His debut ended with a clean sheet by the Dutch champions for the first time this season and Ajax fans were unanimous that he will be a very important player for the club.
