Nigeria will be seeded in the 2022 FIFA World Cup Playoff draw, president of the Nigeria Football Federation, Amaju Pinnick has confirmed.
The Super Eagles are currently ranked fifth on the continent.
The draw for the playoffs was initially scheduled for December 18, with the top five nations in the FIFA rankings seeded while the bottom five would be unseeded, but there were fears in some quarters that the Super Eagles may lose their top five ranking before the draw, which would make them unseeded.
“The CAF Executive Committee met and decided that the last FIFA Rankings in November will be used for the World Cup Draws, Amaju Pinnick clarified.
The Super Eagles and nine other group winners qualified for the playoff round of the African 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifiers and would be drawn against each other on a home and away, two-legged knockout matches to determine Africa’s representatives at the Qatar 2022 Mundial.
