Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) president Amaju Pinnick has said Odion Ighalo will be back for Nigeria’s FIFA World Cup playoff games against Ghana in March and everything will done to make sure Nigeria makes it to Qatar.

Megasportsarena.com reports that the Al Hilal of Saudi Arabia forward was included in Nigeria’s 2021 AFCON squad after coming out of retirement, but the former Watford striker could not honour the callup because of club issues.

Pinnick tweeted after a meeting with Ighalo in Abu Dhabi: “I just met with @ighalojude, the highest goalscorer at the 2019 edition of the AFCON, now playing and still scoring goals for Saudi Arabia’s biggest football club. Odion has assured that playing for his country will always come first and he is ready to ensure that we do play at this year’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar.

“I would like to stress that qualifying for the Qatar World Cup is non-negotiable and we are doing everything possible to ensure this happens.”

Meanwhile, Pinnick is also excited over Ademola Lookman’s switch of nationality from England to Nigeria after the Leicester City winger was cleared by FIFA on Thursday.

“In that vein, I’m also glad to announce that the work we’ve put in has ensured that on-loan Leicester City winger, Ademola Lookman’s application to change his nationality and represent Nigeria has been approved.”
