SSC Napoli of Italy striker, Victor Osimhen may become the first professional football star to feature with an ultra-modern protective face mask made of 3D components.
This, according to information gathered by megasportsaren com, is sequel to plans by Napoli’s top brass to approve his return to action earlier than expected.
The consideration comes in the wake of a revelation by the Italian Serie A club’s chief medical officer, Rafaelle Canonica that Osimhen should be able to resume training with the squad as early as next week.
Although confirmation of that eventuality is still being awaited, a report by Italian publication, Gazzetto della Sport revealed that plans are already in place to get Osimhen a special protective mask he will wear during games.
Independent checks revealed that the type of mask being proposed for the Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup top scorer is a hyper-realistic 3D printed face guard with a head band and ability to attach a clear plastic sheet to the front.
A marketing promo for the new protective face guard, which Osimhen may have the honour of launching in Serie A action before this year runs out, added that it is custom-made.
The promo stated in part: “Rihal created a custom-made medical mask that is eight times as effective as an N95 mask, using software and a Formlab 3D printer.”
This comes following reports on Saturday that Osimhen is bound to resume action earlier than expected, after 18 screws and stitches that were inserted into his cheekbone were removed on Thursday.
Although an additional report indicated another round of surgery for the Super Eagles’ youngster, he has already been placed on standby in Nigeria’s squad list for the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon.
He had initially been ruled out of the competition altogether, on account of the previous diagnosis of three months needed for him to fully recover from the broken cheekbone and eye socket fracture.
The story has, however, now changed overnight, with the report out of Italy indicating that Osimhen may resume team training next week and likely line out in Napoli’s last match of this calendar year.
The report added: “(He will wear a) carbon mask to be supported on the player’s forehead, so as not to press on the eyebrow.
