SSC Napoli of Italy striker, Victor Osimhen is relishing the delight of his heroics on Sunday, as he helped his side soar into second place on the log with a brace of goals against Chievo Verona, megasportsarena.com reports.
Osimhen made the best of a starting spot in the visiting squad’s roster to make hay twice, once in the first half and another after the interval, helping The Neapolitans made the best of their trip to trip to Veneto.
In furtherance of his pledge to seek amends for his side’s slump against AC Milan the previous weekend, Osimhen stood out for Napoli with his double in their 2-1 triumph over Hellas Verona in Sunday’s Serie A encounter.
The Super Eagles’ youngster scored in each half and helped Napoli increase their chances of emerging winners of the Italian league title this season, having garnered 60 points from 29 matches – three below Milan.
Still hurt by their 1-0 home defeat to Milan, The Parthenopeans travelled to Stadio Marc’Antonio Bentegodi with vengeance, aiming to return to winning ways, and Osimhen helped them achieve the bid.
Napoli grabbed the initiative and took the lead as early as the 14th minute through Osimhen, after Matteo Politano’s precise delivery from the right flank found him and he headed the ball past a helpless goalkeeper Lorenzo Montipo.
On the other hand, Verona failed to register a shot on target in an underwhelming first-half performance, despite enjoying 56% of the possession.
With 20 minutes left on the clock, Osimhen doubled the advantage for Luciano Spalletti’s team, sweeping the ball home after he was teed up by Giovanni Di Lorenzo.
Things got testy towards the end though, as Verona pulled one back seven minutes later with their first shot on target, as Davide Faraoni headed home Adrien Tameze’s teasing cross to set up a nervy finale.
However, The Flying Donkeys’ of a leveller were crushed when they were reduced to ten men following Federico Ceccherini’s second yellow-card, which helped Napoli extend their unbeaten away run to eight matches in all competitions.
Osimhen, who has nine league goals in the ongoing campaign, was replaced by Andrea Petagna in the 90th minute, but he will seek a continuum of his goals when Napoli welcome Udinese to Stadio Diego Armando Maradona in their next outing on Saturday.
