Lille Metropole of France striker, Victor Osimhen has disclosed that he has been able to enact a seamless partnership with the club’s Congo-born French star, Jonathan Ikone due to a strong friendship they built together from his very first week in the team at Stade Pierre-Mauroy, megasportsarena.com reports.
The 21-year-old Osimhen said he is happy to get a formidable understanding and partnership with Ikone, which has helped Lille climb to fifth spot in the French Ligue 1, one point below the Europa League spot, and revealed that discussing outside the pitch has also been very useful.
Both players have scored 16 goals since the arrival of the Super Eagles rookie last summer from Sporting Charleroi of Belgium, as they often assist each other to score, apart from betting their personal hauls, and Osimhen enthused that his partnership with Ikone will even get better.
The former VfL Wolfsburg of Germany forward, who shot to limelight as top scorer en route to helping Nigeria win the 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup in Chile, added that he forged a productive partnership with Ikone mostly because his pal invited him to his home for a heart-to-heart talk few days after his arrival from Belgium.
Osimhen told Naija Footballers: “After some couple of games at home, we sat down he called me to his house and he spoke to me. He showed me some of my clips when I was in Charleroi and he showed me some of his assists also.
“So he told me ’how else do I want the ball’ so I explained to him, this is the way I run, this is what I need. Whenever I need the ball in the space this is what you should do. I think we have been trying to understand each other in training. I think we are getting better and of course we will get even better with time.”
