Barcelona Femeni of Spain attacker, Asisat Oshoala has revealed a scary verdict about Nigeria’s female national team, Super Falcons’ captain’s band, as she hinted that it is probably jinxed, megasportsarena.com reports.
‘Super Zee’ made the startling revelation just few hours before the Falcons lined out against Canada for the first of two international friendlies against the reigning Olympic Games women’s football champions, for which she was not invited.
The initial explanation by Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) had been that Oshoala is suffering injury issues, but the former FC Robo Queens of Lagos, Rivers Angels of Port Harcourt, Liverpool and Arsenal Ladies of England as well as ex-Dalian Quanjian of China ace says it is all about the skipper’s band.
Falcons’ coach, Randy Waldrum eventually confirmed that Oshoala had been stripped off the skipper’s band due to poor form, but the four-time African Women Footballer of The Year has now aired a view that her predecessor, Desire Oparanozie cursed the band when it was taken from her.
It would be recalled that Oparanozie was unceremoniously and controversially stripped of the Falcons’ captaincy after she led a players’ strike over unpaid bonuses at the 2019 FIFA Women’s World Cup in France.
Although Oparanaozie was late last year recalled after she formally apologized to the NFF, Oshoala has hinted that everyone who took the skipper’s band since then did not fare well.
A top shot of the NFF revealed along the line that Waldrum had been advised to drop Oshoala because her form dwindled ever since she started leading the Falcons, hence her absence for the matches against Canada and replacement by Onome Ebi.
In response to the chain of controversial matters, Oshoala has now disclosed that her predecessor prayed and fasted against the captain’s arm band when she was stripped of it.
Oshoala, though, concluded by stating that she has nothing against being removed as team captain, but admitted she was hurt that she got to know about the development via social media, instead of being informed privately by the coach.
