Racing Genk of Belgium striker, Paul Ebere Onuachu is facing a daunting hurdle from the club’s top brass, which could put a dent to his ambitions for a summer transfer elsewhere, as his team’s sports director, Dimitri De Conde says they want to keep hold of their best players.
That verdict could be a huge blow for the giant Super Eagles’ hitman, who had been hoping to get a deal in England or another top-European football playing nation on the strength of his feat of emerging Belgian Jupiler League top scorer last season with 35 goals.
Onuachu failed to score when he featured for the Belgian FA Cup winners in Saturday’s Super Cup loss to Club Brugge, but that has not taken the shine of his heroics of the past campaign, and De Conde maintained that the striker will only leave for the right price.
The former Young Stars of Lagos, FC Ebedie of Shagamu and FC Midtjylland of Denmark star failed to score as his side lost 3-2 to the current Belgian champions, with Onuachu replaced by fellow-Nigerian striker, Cyriel Dessers after 46 minutes.
At the opposing end, David Chidozie Okereke, whose future at Club Brugge is unclear, was on the winning side’s bench all evening long, thereby putting in doubt his fate heading into the new season, which will kick off on Friday, ahead of which De Conde declared that nothing concrete has come for Onuachu in the transfer window.
De Conde stressed: “The market is a bit strange. It is a bit quieter than usual, but I don’t mind. We want to keep our team together.
“It is of course a market with supply and demand, but for now it is quiet around them. Let them go for a price that we can agree with.”
