Nigeria’s wrestling head coach, Purity Akuh has fervently promised that the country’s grapplers will return home with a haul of gold medals from this year’s Africa Games in Rabat, Morocco, as he believes they have an ikdeal level of preparations and training fro the competition, megasportsarena.com reports.
Akuh pointed out that the team went through various levels of training and build-up sessions during camping in Bayelsa State, which he reckons put them in top shape and the right frame of mind to take on cleaners at Maroc 2019, with a view towards clinching all gold medals on offer.
He, however, acknowledged during Radio Nigeria Network News that it will not be a stroll in the park, as other competitors heading to Morocco will also be determined and eager to pick as many medals as possible.
The Nigerian grapplers’ coach, though, stressed that he believes in the quality of all 16 wrestlers that will represent the country in Morocco, and concluded with a verdict that their target is not to win just any kind of medals, as their mission is to claim all top spots on the podium.
The Nigerian wrestling team to the 2019 Games in Rabat has six females and 10 males as well as five coaches and two officials, who Akuh says all want to return home in grand style, after seeing the wrestlers compete in three categories of freestyle, women combat and Greco Roman.
At the last Games in Congo, Nigeria finished second behind Egypt on the overall wrestling events’ table, despite topping the female category, with five gold medals from eight available weight categories, and Akuh admits he is banking on the ladies to lead the way again at Maroc 2019.
Aruh stressed: “Our wrestlers have prepared well; with good training and conditioning at our base in Bayelsa State.
“I can assure you that they will all do well in Morocco, especially for the women, from whom were are expecting at least six gold medals.
“I don’t want to underrate anyone, but I know all of them we have in our team will all get to the podium.
“That means we will return with many medals; not just any kind of medals, but gold. We are determined to do to make Nigeria proud.”
