This year’s championship race in Nigeria Women Premier League (NWPL) is set to commence on March 18th, after a decision was reached at the annual congress of the division, which held on Tuesday in Benin City, megasportsarena.com gathered.
Officials disclosed that the 2020 NWPL football season, which will be staged in an abridged format, will feature 16 teams split into two groups of eight each, competing from 18th of March until the 24th of June.
The top two teams from each group will qualify automatically for the Super 4 Championship to determine the eventual winner of the league, while the last teams from both groups will get relegated to the NWFL-Pro League.
Two newly promoted sides were included in the draw programme for this season, as Pelican Stars are back in the NWPL after they got relegated in 2018, while Royal Queens will be playing in the female league for the first time ever.
The full pool has in Group A: Pelican Stars, Nasarawa Amazons, Sunshine Stars, Bayelsa Queens, Abia Angels, Confluence Queens, Dream Stars and Edo Queens; while Group B has: , Heartland Queens, Rivers Angels, Ibom Angels, Royal Queens, Osun Babes, FC Robo Queens, Delta Queens and Adamawa Queens.
