Minister of sports, Sunday Akinlabi Dare has pulled off another successful feat in his continuous and expanding efforts to motivate Nigerian sports stars and bring accelerated progress to the sector, as he has procured and signed an agreement that will fetch top female wrestler, Odunayo Adekuoroye a whopping $10,000 (about N3.6m) from a corporate entity in the country.

The minister, who he also donated kits to the wrestler, said during the MoU signing event at his office in Abuja that said he was impressed with the level of Adekuoroye’s preparations for the Olympics and expressed optimism that she will win gold at the world’s biggest sports event.
A post on social media from Office of the Minister of Youth & Sports Dev. @OMYSDNg added: “Congratulations to Odunayo Adekuoroye, World No 1 female wrestler in the 57kg category, as @halogenNG completed her adoption process & have handed to her directly $10,000 (N3.6m) under @SundayDareSD’s ‘Adopt-an-Athelete’ initiative. Bring home that Olympics gold, Champ!”
In her response, Adekuoroye promised to work hard to make Nigeria proud at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, and went on to express gratitude to the minister and Halogen Company for considering her worthy of such support and trust.
Adekuoroye declared. “The Minister is more like a father to me. He is doing what a father should do for a daughter and I have nothing to give to him, but I promise to make him proud. I also want to thank Halogen Company.
“Three entities wanted to adopt me at first, but the spirit of the Lord led the Minister to take me to Halogen. I promise to make my coach, the Minister and all Nigerians proud. No competition is easy, (but) we are trained to wrestle, and we will do just that.”
