Manchester City are close to an agreement with Borussia Dortmund to sign centre-back Manuel Akanji for €17.5m as Pep Guardiola looks to further bolster his back line, reports Megasportsarena.com reports.
The 27 years old was set to become a free agent next summer and City have pounced and discussions between the two clubs are ongoing.
The former Dortmunders İlkay Gündoğan and Erling Haaland are already under contract with coach Pep Guardiola’s team.
As a result of Dortmund’s possession-focused philosophy, Akanji tends to be a heavy contributor to his team’s build-up play.
Only five Bundesliga centre-backs who played 1000+ minutes averaged more passes per 90 last season (71.09). Despite this, he still had the second-best pass success rate across the division (92.32 per cent).
