Leeds United now have competition in their hunt to sign FC Nantes’ Nigerian ace Moses Simon as Newcastle Untied enter the conversation.
The 26-year-old was one of the stars of the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations for the Nigeria despite the Super Eagles being knocked out in the round of 16 by Tunisia.
Megasports arena.com understands that The Magpies are now set to offer the Nigerian winger a whopping £100,000 per week salary to sign for the club.
During Rafa Benitez’s reign, the Magpies were linked with Simon, back when he was at Gent and valued around £10 million.
Newcastle scouted him at that time but of course Mike Ashley was still at the top of the club and that meant targets were regularly missed.
Since their Saudi Arabian takeover in October, they have been throwing money around, signing five players in January (Kieran Trippier, Chris Wood, Dan Burn, Matt Targett and Bruno Guimares).
Liverpool have been credited with interest too, and it would be a boost if they could beat those two clubs (Ledds, too) to the wideman in the summer, not least because it would likely mean survival has been secured.
Newcastle are presumably making transfer plans for two scenarios; survival and relegation.
Simon would also fit in nicely at Elland Road too with an added winger a much-needed commodity in Marcelo Bielsa’s small squad.
