UD Huesca of Spain midfielder, Kelechi Nwakali has missed out on the chance of moving to either Barnsley of England or fellow-Spanish lower division side, Burgos CF due to complicated transfer bottlenecks.
Megasportsarena.com gathered that this development comes at a point when the former Arsenal of England signing, who played on loan from The Gunners to several other clubs across Europe, is reportedly nearing the exit door at Huesca.
Nwakali, who eventually got his senior and competitive debuts for the Super Eagles at the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations, comes off contract with Huesca at the end of June and he apparently has no intention of extending his stay.
However, his inability to get any club to commit to transfer talks with Huesca has left the Chile 2015 FIFA U-17 World Cup-winning captain in a tight spot and he has to see out the last five months of his contract at his present base.
Despite the possibility of leaving Huesca unceremoniously at the end of this season, Nwakali’s efforts at leaving in the January transfer window fell flat, as the Barnsley deal never truly materialized, while a proposed deadline day move to Burgos also failed to flow.
The product of Diamond Football Academy of Umuahia is said to have tried a move to Burgos as a second and late option in the winter transfer window, but the deal could not move as fast as expected and documents were not signed in time before the January market shut for business.
It was also learnt that, apart from Barnsley and Burgos, a number of other clubs in Spain and England reportedly explored the possibility of signing Nwakali last month but Huesca were unwilling to do business with any.
Nwakali, who spent time on loan at MVV Maastricht and VV Van Venlo of Netherlands as well as FC Porto of Portugal and AD Alcorcón of Spain, will now have to wait until the summer, when he would have become a free agent, to seal a likely exit from Huesca.
The report added: “The deal fell through despite Nwakali having reportedly agreed a loan move to Burgos, who are above Huecsa in the Spanish second division league, but all paperwork needed for the switch could not be completed before deadline.
“Nonetheless, Nwakali has already entered the final six months of his contract with Huesca and it is just a matter of time before he leaves the team with which he has made 33 appearances across two and a half seasons.
“His haul of games included five in La Liga, four in Copa del Rey and 24 in Segunda Liga, sandwiching time spent on loan at Alcorcón for the second half of last season.
“The former Golden Eaglets and Flying Eagles’ captain was involved in all group matches of the Super Eagles at AFCON 2021, except the 1-0 loss to Tunisia in the round of 16.”
