Nigerian football officials and stakeholders were left in shock on Wednesday, following news about the death of former Super Eagles’ midfielder, Justice Christopher.
Megasportsarena.com gathered that the sad incident occurred after the product of Nasarawa United of Lafia slumped and died in Plateau State capital, Jos.
A media release by the communications department of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF) recalled that the former battling midfielder played for the country at youth and senior levels.
He went on to star for the Eagles between 2001 and 2002, during which he amassed a total of 11 caps and was in Nigeria’s squad to the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Korea/Japan.
His highpoint in The Land of The Rising Sun came when he featured in a goalless draw with England at Osaka Nagai Stadium.
NFF’s media department as recounted how Christopher featured for Katsina United, Sharks of Port Harcourt and Insurance of Benin City on the domestic front before travelling abroad.
He went on to play for Royal Antwerp of Belgium, Levski Sofia of Bulgaria, Trelleborgs FF of Sweden, Alania Vladikavkaz of Russia and Herfølge BK of Denmark, following which he joined Nasarawa United in October 2012.
The football governing body’s emotional statement added: “This is devastating. Justice Christopher was young and full of life.
“His death is a thing of deep sorrow here at the NFF and the entire Nigeria Football ambience. There was no report that he was ill.
“We are stunned to hear of his death. We pray that God will grant him eternal rest and comfort the family that he has left behind.”
