Nigerian-born world boxing heavyweight champion, Anthony Olaseni Oluwafemi Joshua might have to be on his toes after his June 1 debut in USA, as another America boxer, Dominic Breazeale is aiming at his belts, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although Breazeale has fellow-American, Deontay Wilder to contend with in a World Boxing Council (WBC) title fight this weekend, he is already predicting a shock victory against the champion, then gun for ‘AJ’ right after, probably before 2019 runs its full course.
Breazeale challenges ‘The Brown Bomber,’ Wilder, for the WBC crown at New York’s Barclays Center in the early hours of Sunday, while Joshua faces Andy Ruiz Jr in the same city at the start of June , with more bouts then expected to revolve round the lot later on.
Although he lost a previous bout against Joshua, Breazeale wants to set up a rematch with the IBF, WBA and WBO heavyweight champ, as he says he knockout Wilder inside three rounds.
The California fighter (20-1, 18 KOs) has won all three fights inside the distance since suffering his sole career defeat to Joshua when he was stopped in seven rounds at The O2 Arena three years ago.
Breazeale told Sky Sports: “It’s not if, it’s when I beat Wilder. When I beat Wilder, I definitely will love to unify the titles against AJ.
“I’ve understood for the last two-and-a-half years, almost three years since I fought AJ in the summer of 2016, that it was the only way to get back to him. It was my only way to get back to a rematch with AJ.
“AJ has no reason to come down to me and fight me. If I’ve got a belt that he wants, he’s definitely going to fight me for it.
“So a unification and undisputed heavyweight championship belt is definitely on the horizon.”
