Portuguese tactician, José Peseiro is still in contention to become the next coach of the Super Eagles, even as a long list of aspirants for the plum job has now appeared in the media.
Megasportsarena.com gathered that the list now being bandied round has three former Barcelona players and an ex-assistant coach of their Spanish LaLiga rivals, Real Madrid.
The names of being bandied alongside that of Peseiro are those of namely Laurent Blanc, Phillip Cocu and Ernesto Valverde, who all starred for Barca during their playing days.
Peseiro, who is a former Madrid assistant coach and ex-FC Porto boss has also been reportedly formally recommended for the Eagles’ top job along with all the others by the technical and development committee of Nigeria Football Federation (NFF).
NFF president, Amaju Melvin Pinnick had earlier welcome the idea of Peseiro returning to the picture about the Eagles’ next coach, after talks broke down between earlier this year due to financial issues and clauses in the contract.
A report by allnigeriasoccer.com added: “The Nigerian Federation have decided that a foreign coach will be appointed for the Super Eagles as a permanent replacement for erstwhile manager Gernot Rohr.
“A two-and-a-half-year permanent deal had been offered to former interim manager Augustine Eguavoen before the World Cup playoff against Ghana but the offer was withdrawn after the country’s failure to qualify for the tournament in Qatar.
“The good news is that Blanc, Cocu, Valverde and Peseiro are all free agents in football parlance, meaning the Nigerian Federation will not have to pay financial compensation to a club or country before closing the deal.”
