SC Paderborn of Germany defender, Jamlilu Collins had a major scare over the past weekend, as he was floored by a bout with influenza infection that ruled him out of action with his club in the German Bundesliga, megasportsarena.com reports.
In Collins’ absence, his bottom placed side stumbled to a 3-0 loss away to FC Cologne in a match day 18 fixture at Rhein Energie Stadion
It is the first time Collins would be omitted from Pardeborn’s squad all competitions this season, as he has been a super-regular in the outfit that only got promoted to the top-flight in the past campaign.
While Collins missed out of action in the cellar battle in the German Bundesliga, Cologne’s win left Paderborn last on the log, after the clash of two struggling sides that were both promoted in the past season.
There was a Nigerian presence, though, as Kingsley Ehizibue got his seventh start for Cologne, since joining the former club of Sunday Ogorchukwu Oliseh and Anthony Ujah since his summer move from PEC Zwolle of Holland.
Ehizibue was spotted in the build-up to his side’s opening goal, but it was Simon Terodde that gave Cologne a ninth-minute lead, after his effort was confirmed with a lengthy video review to check a possible offside position by his teammate, Sebastian Bornauw.
Louis Schaub headed in just before the hour and Bornauw headed in from a corner five minutes from time to complete a comfortable victory for the home side, to seal Cologne’s second victory of the season, which moves them to 15th on seven points, while Paderborn are still without a win and have lost seven of their first eight games in the top flight.
Paderborn disclosed afterwards that Collins was left out of the squad because he was suffering from a flu infection, but the club’s coach, Steffen Baumgart did not provide any information on the left-back’s expected date of return.
