SC Paderborn 07 of Germany defender, Jamilu Collins has admitted he felt sad to lose during his first ever match in the German Bundesliga, but says it is an experience he hopes to build on, megasportsarena.com reports.
After starring for 90 minutes of his side’s 3-2 loss to Bayer Leverkusen on Saturday, Collins confessed that it was disappointing being on the losing side, but pointed out that he can pick positives from the tough fight his side gave their hosts.
The former Flying Eagles left-back, who is now a regular in the senior Nigerian national team and starred in three matches at the recent Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, added that he feels honoured after making his Bundesliga debut on Saturday.
Despite his team’s defeat, Collins, who has been with Paderborn since their days in the German third-tier division, stressed that he was quite pleased to make his bow in the top flight and vowed that his team will bounce back in their next game and recover from their losing start.
Collins declared: “I am pleased to have played my first Bundesliga match, but it was so unfortunate we lost the match.
“This was the first match for me in the Bundesliga, it is an honour and a thing of pride. I will forever cherish the moment.
“I’m satisfied with my performance but I can only get better. I just want to continue to improve. I want to do more for my club and hopefully we’ll get bounce back.”
