Leicester City of England midfielder, Kelechi Iheanacho could yet get his chance to shine with the club in days to come, as The Foxes’ gaffer, Brendan Rodgers his disclosed that he is satisfied seeing the lad keep working hard in training, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although Rodgers did not specify whether Iheanacho will get a chance to feature this weekend against Manchester United, the former Liverpool boss enthused that the out-of-favour lad continues showing good attitude, despite his floundering fortunes with both club and country.
The verdict comes soon after Iheanacho was again ridiculed with full duration minutes on the Nigerian bench, as he did not get into action with the Super Eagles for Tuesday’s international friendly against Ukraine, despite only being recalled to the squad after being left out of the roster to this year’s Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt.
That continued the trying time for Iheanacho, who is still searching for his first competitive goal for club and country since September 22, 2018, but Rodgers has now come out with an incisive and very encouraging scorecard for the former Columbus Crew of USA and Manchester Coty of England lad, who was the most valuable player at UAE 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup, when he helped Nigeria win their fourth trophy at the Cadet Mundial.
Having proved in pre-season that he has not lost his scoring touch, he was recalled to the Nigeria squad for the recent friendly against Ukraine but was an unused substitute largely due to the fact that he reported for international duty late.
Despite the lad again getting a shut-out on international duty, Rodgers has now spoken out in glowing terms for Iheanacho, who has played 63 official games for Leicester since joining them from Man City in August 2017 and is contracted to The Foxes until June 30, 2022.
Though Iheanacho was not in Leicester’s list for the last three games in all competitions, Rodgers says the embattled lad is still a part of the squad and could soon be called upon to feature for the team, as the midfielder-cum-attacker has been professional in his attitude to the situation, as he keeps up putting in his very best during training.
Rodgers stated: ”He’s very much a part of the squad. We have a really tight training group which he is a part of. During the course of the season we are going to need all the players. Over the summer we strengthened the squad so everyone is going to be competing for a place. He trains really hard whether he is in the squad or not”.
