Manchester United of England’s in-form striker, Odion Jude Ighalo has picked the trio of Spanish midfielder, Juan Mata as well as another Spaniard, goalkeeper David De Gea and Argentine shot-stopper, Sergio Romero as his closest pals in The Red Devils’ squad, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although he pointed out that all the players have been friendly with him since his arrival on loan from Shanghai Shenhua of China in January, Ighalo admitted he feels freer with De Gea, Romero and Mata because they all speak Spanish, which he learnt during his days playing for Granada.
It was from Granada of Spain that Ighalo moved to Udinese of Italy, after an initial start to his overseas career at Lyn Oslo of Norway, and the former Super Eagles’ striker has now revealed that his days in The Land of The Armada are coming in handy for him at Old Trafford.
He also found a friend from Udinese waiting for him at The Theatre of Dreams, as his former teammate at the Italian Serie A club, Bruno Fernandes is also new at United, all of which Ighalo says has made his settling down easier and faster.
While also going on to commend all the players, coaches and officials for welcoming him in open hands, making him feel at home from the word go, Ighalo added that he is most grateful for his days at Granada, as it accorded him the opportunity of learning Spanish, which is now useful for him in hobnobbing with some of United’s key players.
Ighalo disclosed: “I have a lot of guys there who have helped me. The guys in the dressing room are very good guys. The first time I stepped my feet in that dressing room. There are two or three players that took me and made me feel welcome and comfortable.
“After two or three days we started living like brothers, like I’ve been there for five years, laughing together and cracking jokes together; especially Juan Mata, De Gea and the other goalkeeper Romero, because they speak Spanish and I speak Spanish.”
