Milwaukee Bucks of America star, Giannis Adetokunbo (Antretokounmpo) is set to face a stiff challenge on Friday, as his side go out against Charlotte Hornets in a special match of USA’s National Basketball Association (NBA) league in Paris, France, megasportsarena.com reports.
Ahead of the encounter in the French capital, Adetokunbo has been told in clear terms that the opponents will not hold any respect for him as the NBA’s current most valuable player, as The Hornets want to create history in the encounter that is being staged home-away-from-home.
Leading The Hornets’ charge is Bismack Biyombo, who pointed out that playing in a star-studded that has ‘The Greek Freak’ as one of their key players means he and his colleagues have the right motivation to step up their game and aim to despoil Antetokounmpo and his colleagues.
Biyombo acknowledged that the Greece national team star’s rise to fame and current status as the league’s MVP show the productive value of hard work, which he stressed is the hallmark of The Hornets’ vision, as they prepare to tango Milwaukee from 8pm on Friday.
He admitted that Antetokounmpo, last season’s NBA most valuable player, is very much the star attraction for the game, but the Charlotte center added that the Nigerian-born star also provides the perfect inspiration for The Hornets, who enter the encounter on a seven-game skid and they have not made the NBA playoffs in the last three seasons.
The departure of their star player, Kemba Walker in the summer in free agency served to further emphasise The Hornets as a team in need of a sprinkling of stardust to get back to relevance, and Biyombo points to Antetokounmpo, the star man on the league’s current best team, as evidence of the tangible benefit a proper work ethic can yield.
Antetokounmpo came into the league a raw sprawl of limbs with plenty of flaws in his game, why he did not go any higher than 15th in the 2013 NBA draft, but he has now smashed apart all expectations, as he continues to prove his game year on year.
The latest development in his game has seen him begin to shoot the three-point shot with a bit more confidence and, as he becomes a consistent threat from outside, Antetokounmpo will be almost impossible to defend when driving at the rim, as he bulldozes towards the basket, all of which Biyombo acknowledged heading into Friday’s game, but he equally warned that Charlotte will fight hard to get something out of the American basketball league fixture on French soil.
Biyombo said: “For us, it’s a challenge. To be the team that we want to become, we always need to challenge the greatest. He has turned into the MVP which is something that we need to encourage because it shows that with hard work you can achieve great things.
“Truth is, he’s working hard to get to the level he’s at today and I think that he still has a lot to show. Milwaukee is a very good team, a great challenge for us.”
