Beleaguered Super Eagles head coach Gernot Rohr is hopeful that Victor Osimhen could be in the Nigerian squad for next month’s Africa Cup of Nations, reports Megasportsarena.com.
The leggy forward suffered a nasty facial injury after colliding with Inter’s defender Milan Skriniar in a Serie A match between Napoli and Inter Milan on November 21 and underwent a successful surgery and was ruled out for three months.
Osimhen was back on the pitch yesterday (Wednesday), the first time since he suffered the injury, and had a run round the training pitch and also did some cardio and physio works with club medics.
Gernot Rohr is excited with news and told AFP, as per Eurosport that there’s every likelihood that the striker will be ok before the Afcon.
“There may be a little hope. He resumed training yesterday (Wednesday). It’s going to be a race against time.
“He has to do bodybuilding (even if) it was a facial injury.”
Osimhen is Nigeria’s highest goalscorer in the AFCON qualifiers and the group stages of the Qatar 2022 FIFA World Cup qualifying series.
