Despite suffering a poor start to this year’s FIFA Women’s World Cup in France, Nigeria’s female national team, Super Falcons are still drawing the attention of fans, as the team’s last group match against the host country is already sold out, megasportsarena.com reports.
The Falcons went into their second match of the competition knowing they had to beat South Korea to stand any chance of moving into the knock-out stage, but ardent fans had already gone ahead to book seats for their last group match against France on Monday.
Even before the Nigerian team pulled off a massive redemption victory against the Asians on Wednesday afternoon in Grenoble, France, their next game had already been fully booked, with tickets no longer available a week before the fixture.
World soccer governing body, FIFA confirmed that the match is sold out, and tickets for the game in Rennes are no longer up for grab, as followership at the tournament reached an important milestone with over one million slots allocated to fans worldwide in just four days.
As the first-ever Women’s World Cup featuring single-venue matches in a 24-team format, 14 out of the 52 matches are already sold out, with no more inventory available, including Nigeria’s tie with France on Monday and some others taking place later in the competition.
The full list of upcoming matches with no more inventory available are Netherlands vs Cameroon – 15 June (in Valenciennes), USA vs Chile – 16 June (in Paris), Nigeria vs France – 17 June (Rennes), Italy vs Brazil – 18 June (Valenciennes), Sweden vs USA – 20 June (Le Havre), Quarter-final – 28 June (Paris), Semi-final – 2 July (in Lyon), Semi-final – 3 July (in Lyon), and Final – 7 July (in Lyon).
