Enyimba of Aba coach, Usman Abdallah is picking positives from his side’s 1-0 loss away top Rahimo of Burkina Faso in the CAF Champions League first round qualifiers, as he believes The Peoples Elephant will romp back to turn the tables in the return leg at home.
Abdallah went on to give his players thumbs up for holding their own against a team he says has a tradition of winning at home, and stressed that they will now start planning leg by immediately returning to camp back home in Aba.
Rahimo recorded the match winner after half an hour when their star player, Zanon dribbled into Enyimba’s box and his shot was deflected off Ifeanyi Anaemena’s thigh into the net.
Abdallah described it as a fluke goal and added during Mega Sports on Star 101 FM, Lagos that Enyimba are no leaving any stone unturned in their efforts to turn the table in Aba.
The soft-spoken gaffer further pointed out that his side were a little rusty and laidback, since they only recently returned to training, while their opponents have been preparing for the competition since May, which he admitted gave the hosts an edge in terms of match readiness and concentration.
Abdallah added: “It’s the first game of the competition, and we are yet to get into the chemistry of matches.
“We just assembled 10 days ago, but we played against a team that has been preparing since May. The difference showed in this match.
“That is not to say we are giving up. We have seen where we went wrong and we will prepare to do better in the second leg.
“We are returning home straight to camp. We will get back immediately into training and we will prepare very well for the second leg.”
