Austin Eguavoen is set to give players in the Nigeria Professional Football League a chance to compete for shirts in the Super Eagles.

The Super Eagles interim manager, who doubles as the Nigeria Football Federation technical director, has been transiting match venues with his monitoring team to closely assess players in the NPFL who were frozen out by the sacked manager Gernot Rohr.

The former Super Eagles captain was Ilorin last weekend with his team, to watch Kwara United beat Lobi Stars of Makurdi 1-0 in an NPFL MatchDay 11 match and commended the high standards exhibited by both teams.

Eguavoen, who led the Super Eagles to a Round of 16 finish at the just concluded Africa Cup of Nations in Cameroon disclosed that any “Nigerian playing in any of the leagues in the country can get a chance to play for the national team. I have seen about two or three games, the standard is high, officiating is good.”

“Once players get information that we will be around to watch their matches, it gives them hope and the thought of getting a chance to play for the country some day. We just want to give them a chance to aspire.” Eguavoen assured.
