The president of Nigeria Basketball Federation (NBBF), Engineer Ahmed Musa-Kida has issued a declaration that the female senior national team, D’Tigress will be ready to take on all-comers at the upcoming Olympic Games Qualification Tournament, megasportsarena.com reports.
Speaking against the backdrop of critical comments that trailed the NBBF over shoddy welfare and flight hitches for the men’s squad, D’Tigers during their stopover in Lagos before heading out to China for the recent FIBA World Cup, Kida assured that D’Tigress will not suffer same plight.
He added that the federation already knows what is lying ahead of them and will take every step to ensure they get things right this time, even as he acknowledged that all hands must be on deck for a smooth execution of all the NBBF’s programmes heading into the last quarter of the year.
He, however, enthused that the female national team players what to emulate what their male compatriots did, as D’Tigers qualified for the Tokyo 2020 Olympics via the classification route at the World Cup, and D’Tigress also want to reach the same point by excelling at the qualification tournament in November, which he says it a task that can be achieved.
Kida stated: “The girls are going in November for the Olympic Games qualifiers, and they want to be like the men, as the first team to qualify. They want to be there in Tokyo next year, and I am sure they will be there.”
