Feyenoord of Netherlands striker, Cyriel Dessers could be on his way back to Racing Genk of Belgium this summer, should feelers from his former base turn out to be realistic, megasportsarena.com reports.
This is, however, in contrast with the torrid spell he had during his first tenure with the Belgian side, which he joined after emerging top scorer in the Dutch top-flight with Hercales Almelo.
Sadly, against all expectations, Dessers failed to tie down a regular spot at Genk, as the presence and top form of fellow-Nigerian striker, Paul Ebere Onuachu put paid to his aspirations.
However, with Onuachu appearing assured of a transfer out of Genk eventually this summer, the radar has turned back on Dessers, who has a Nigerian mother and Belgian father, but opted to play for the Super Eagles at international level.
Dessers, who has nine goals in 23 appearances for Feyenoord despite his limited game time, is now being touted as the ideal replacement for Onuachu in the event the 2021 Belgian Jupiler League’s golden shoe winner being sold in the summer transfer window.
A report by voetbal24 revealed further that Genk’s technical director, Dimitri De Condé is set to make a move for the return of Dessers, who was loaned to Feyenoord in the summer transfer window loan move to Feyenoord, with an option to buy included in the deal.
Incidentally, Genk signed Nigerian-born striker, Ike Ugbo last summer to provide competition for Onuachu, but the former Chelsea youth team player has been loaned out to Troyes of France with an option to buy at the end of this season.
That has further paved way for a dramatic and sensational return to Genk for Dessers, but it may only happen if Onuachu moves on, thereby leaving space open at The Limburgers for next season.
De Condé submitted: “If Feyenoord does not execute the option of Cyriel Dessers, then he is more than welcome here again next season.”
