Aston Villa of England’s Nigerian-born youngster, Carney Chukwuemeka has joined the legion of players having their games in the English Premier League postponed, megasportsarena.com reports.
However, while Everton’s Alex Iwobi as well as the duo of Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho got their postponements based on covid-19 issues, the situation with Chukwuemeka is different.
In the case of Chukwuemeka’s club, a spread of injuries in the squad of their impending opponents, Leeds United, has been cited as the major reason, above complications arising from the pandemic.
A report by Sky Sports New revealed that Leeds’ game with Aston Villa on Tuesday is the latest EPL fixture to be postponed, after a combination of Covid-19 cases and injuries in their squad saw them make a request, which was granted by the league’s sanctioning authority.
Leeds, whose EPL match against Liverpool on Boxing Day had already been postponed due to the virus, added in a statement: “While there have been no new Covid cases in the playing squad, the majority of those who tested positive prior to the Liverpool game are not yet out of isolation.
“Therefore, we still do not have enough recognised first-team players to meet the Premier League requirements for the fixture.”
