Arsenal of England winger, Bukayo Saka has received another massive dose of support, following the crucial penalty he missed in last weekend’s European Championship final, megasportsarena.com reports.
Saka’s kick could have given England a lifeline at a point they were tied with Italy in the shootout that followed a 1-1 stalemate between both teams after extra time, but the Nigerian-born lad could not convert from the spot.
A section of fanatical England fans reacted by trolling Saka on social media, while many pundits also slammed him for failing to rise to the occasion, but his coach at Arsenal, Mikel Arteta has now spoken out in support of the youngster.
Although he admitted the missed penalty was costly, Arteta reasoned that it just has to be put into past tense and predicted that Saka will bounce back even better in days to come, despite the pain of England’s Euro 2020 final defeat.
The 19-year-old Saka was targeted on social media after missing his penalty in the shootout at Wembley against Italy, while fellow Three Lions’ youngsters, who missed their kicks before the Nigerian-born lad, Marcus Rashford and Jadon Sancho also received abusive messages.
Arteta told Sky Sports that he had personally spoken to Saka after England’s Wembley heartbreak and added: “He will be fine. He is such a strong character.
“He has received a lot of love and support from world football, not only with Arsenal but the national team and all the English fans because he doesn’t deserve anything like he has been through.”
