Arsenal of England youngsters, Bukayo Saka and James Olayinka both ignited magnificent starts to pre-season with the London club’s main team, after scoring for The Gunners in their build-up match against American Major League Soccer (MLS) club, Colorado Rapids.
Megasportsarena.com reports that Saka struck only 12 minutes into the game at Dick’s Sporting Goods Park Denver, to give Arsenal the lead, with a squad that saw their coach, Unai Emery name several promising youngsters in his starting line-up.
Saka was joined by fellow-Nigerian-born lad, Olayinka, who was making his first-team debut for the North London club, but defied all odds to also put himself into the spotlight under the keen eyes of Emery.
Before being substituted in the 62nd minute, Olayinka struck as well from outside the box to double Arsenal’s advantage in the 29th minute, before new signing Gabriel Martinelli hit the third goal after the hour.
However, it was the more popular of the duo, Saka, who has already played in the UEFA Europa League, that was very outstanding in the early stage of Tuesday morning’s match, as he bundled the ball home to give the English Premier League side the lead.
The 17-year-old Saka made hay in chipping the ball over the goalkeeper, Clint Irwin, following some impressive work in the build-up from Eddie Nketiah, while Olayinka doubled Arsenal’s advantage with a strike into the top left-hand corner.
Mesut Ozil, Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette went on in the closing minutes, with Emery keeping them fresh for their three upcoming matches in the International Champions Cup.
Saka and Olayinka will now aim for more sizzlers in Arsenal’s next pre-season friendly, when they face Bayern Munich of Germany at Dignity Health Sports Park in Carson, California, USA on Thursday.
