Arsenal of England youngster, Bukayo Saka has gained words of support from one of The Gunners’ legends, Ray Parlour, who has urged the London-based English Premier League club to quickly tie the Nigerian-born youngster down to a new contract at Emirates Stadium, megasportsarena.com reports.
Although top shots at Arsenal are keen on giving Saka a fresh deal commensurate his growing status and relevance in the squad, they are yet to reach a suitable agreement with the player’s representatives, but Parlour says the club must work hard to secure the lad’s new contract.
The dark-skinned Nigerian-born left-footer has been excellent with Arsenal this season, which is his first at full senior level, but there is growing speculation that he may not want to renew his contract at Emirates Stadium, amid interest from Liverpool and a couple of other top clubs.
A report by Times UK also indicates that The Gunners face losing the versatile teenager if they fail to qualify for either the UEFA Champions League or Europa League at the end of this season, as Saka has done well since forcing his way into the first team, making 28 outings in total since debuting against Vorskla Poltava in November 2018.
Playing in Europe has been Saka’s vision all along, and he wants to continue facing the best of players from across the world in the European continental terrain but, with 12 games left this season in the EPL, Mikel Arteta’s team sit 10th with 34 points, seven less than London rivals, Chelsea, who occupy the last Champions League spot.
Another route to UCL qualification for Arsenal is by winning this season’s Europa League or they can qualify for that same competition again if they lift the English FA Cup or finish fifth or sixth in the EPL, which could provide them with enough to convince Saka to stay put.
However, current UCL champions and EPL winners in waiting, Liverpool are looking to raid The Gunners’ for Saka’s signature, which could be a very tempting proposition for the youngster, as The Reds have proven they are the club to beat this season on the domestic front.
Liverpool are the runaway leaders and almost certain to end as champions in England, which has seen them already building for the future, hence their moves for Saka and Bruno Martinelli from Arsenal, as both kids have provided impressive aspects of an otherwise dour 10th placed team.
An additional report by Football Insider suggests that Saka and Martinelli could jolly well both move to Liverpool in the summer, hence the declaration by Parlour that officials at his former club should move pretty fast to tie both players down with all they have in their coffers.
Martinelli has proven himself a clinical striker, while Saka is a talented winger who can also fill in at wing back and has just 18 months remaining on his current contract over the next six months, such that Parlour says Arsenal have a crucial role to play in convincing the 18-year-old to stay.
Parlour told talkSPORT: “Saka was excellent again on the left-hand side, he had another really good game. I think he has to get tied down now on a new contract. I think they are trying to organise it at the moment.
“At the moment Arsenal are 10th in the table, which isn’t good enough, but Lacazette’s goal and how the players celebrated, they knew he needed that. There are a lot of changes that need to be made at Arsenal but there is a feel-good factor again.”
