UAE 2013 FIFA U-17 World Cup gold medalist, Taiwo Awoniyi has taken another giant step towards possibly getting a full spell with his parent club, Liverpool of England this season, as he has commenced training with The Reds’ main team.
Megasportsarena.com reports that Awoniyi is yet to get a single match under his boots since signing for Liverpool in 2005, but his recent acquisition of a British work permit has signaled the golden opportunity he has been waiting for.
That opportunity got a huge boost when he commenced drills under Liverpool’s German coach, Jurgen Klopp, as the gaffer started running the rule over the former Golden Eaglets, Flying Eagles and Olympic Eagles’ striker on Monday.
That has now served up a strong view that Klopp might be keen on drafting Awoniyi into The Reds’ first-team squad for the incoming campaign, as he featured in the team’s first day at their training camp in Austria.
Awoniyi rubbed shoulders with the like of Ibrahima Konate, Trent Alexander-Arnold, Joe Gomez, Joel Matip and Virgil van Dijk, as the squad undertook lactate testing, endurance conditioning and development of various fitness levels with a series of runs at increasing speeds.
He will now aim to prove his mettle during the period in Austria, where Liverpool have lined up pre-season fixtures against local outfit, FC Wacker Innsbruck, as well as the German trio of VfB Stuttgart, FSV Mainz and Hertha BSC.
Incidentally, Awoniyi last played on loan at FC1. Union Berlin of Germany, after spending previous seasons at FSV Frankfurt of Germany, NEC Nijmegen of Netherlands, twice at Royal Excel Mouscron of Belgium and once at their Jupiler League rivals, KAA Gent, as well as at SV Mainz 05 of Germany.
