Asisat Oshoala is out of the Women Africa Cup Of Nations (WAFCON 2022) following the injury she sustained in the team’s opening match against Banyana Banyana on Monday in Rabat, reports Megasportsarena.com.
Oshoala took a heavy knock on her knee early in game which affected her mobility, although she was eventually subbed off in the fourth quarter of the match.
According to the Nigeria Football Federation, the Barcelona Femini forward is ruled out of the tournament no thanks to a ligament problem.
“She sustained a Grade 2 Medial Collateral Ligament strain in the game against South Africa. She is due back in Spain on Thursday. Get well quick Asisat!” The NFF tweeted on Wednesday.
The four-time African Player of the Year will be sorely missed by the African champions, who lost their first Group C game 2-1 to South Africa and are now condemned to win their next match against Botswana on Thursday.
The Botswana girls, who are group leaders, won their opening game 4-2 against Burundi and a win for the Super Falcons will give them their first victory in the competition, with the hope of qualifying for the knockout stage.
