Wolfsberger AC of Austria defender, Ahogrenashinme Kigbu (aka Ash) has been ruled out of action with Nigeria’s youth national team, Flying Eagles at this year’s FIFA U-20 World Cup, due to his club’s refusal to release him for the competition.
Wolfsberger are still neck deep in their Austrian Bundesliga battles and, with the Youth Mundial set to begin May 22 in Poland, they feel letting the 20-year-old former England youth international join Paul Aigbogun’s camp in Germany would be detrimental to their ambitions.
Born February 5, 1999 in England, Kigbu trained with both Manchester United and Manchester City as a kid, but he eventually chose to sign for The Citizens after attending St Bede’s College.
On July 31, 2018, Kigbu joined his current Austrian Bundesliga side in a two-year deal with the option of a third, then made his professional debut in the last ten minutes in a goalless draw with Rapid Wien.
Megasportsarena.com gathered further that Kigbu was called up to England’s under-18 team for the first time in August 2016 and made his debut in a 2-1 win over Italy U18 during a four-team mini tournament.
He, however, early this year opted to switch allegiance to Nigeria from England and was soon after invited to the Flying Eagles, ahead of their flight to Poland 2019, but Wolfsberger have refused to release him.
Wolfsberger insist they still need his services, as he has played eight games in all competitions, four in the league, three in RL Mitte and one in the OFB-Cup, but with just 45 minutes game time collectively.
Aigbogun, though, is not losing sleep over the development, as he has fully turned his attention on the defensive midfield duo of Mohammed Zulkifilu and Jamil Mohammed to fill in alongside Valentine Ozornwafor, Aliu Salawudeen and BK Rosenborg of Norway youngster, Igho Ogbu.
