Glasgow Rangers of Scotland midfielder, Joe Aribo has been named among the to-10 talented players to watch out for at this year’s Africa Cup of Nations, megasportsarena.com reports.
The roll call has emerged ahead of Sunday’s kick-off for the much-expected continental soccer spree, with Aribo noted among the star-studded Nigerian squad as the lad to watch.
That pits him ahead of Leicester City of England duo of Wilfred Onyinyen Ndidi and Kelechi Iheanacho, Everton’s Alex Iwobi and Villarreal of Spain winger, Samuel Chukwueze, who most Nigerians would normally tip among their best.
The onus is now falling on Aribo to justify the rating, which comes against the backdrop of the former Charlton Athletic of England dazzler getting the iconic jersey number 10 in Nigeria’s squad of 28 players to the competition tagged AFCON 2021.
The survey published by Sky Sports named Aribo along side Karl Toko Ekambi – Cameroon, Mohamed Bayo – Guinea, Pape Sarr – Senegal, Kamaldeen Sulemana – Ghana, Sofiane Boufal – Morocco, Youcef Atal – Algeria, Franck Kessie – Ivory Coast, Ellyes Skhiri – Tunisia and Amadou Haidara – Mali.
The Nigerian youngster, who scored against Brazil on his Nigeria debut during a friendly staged at Singapore National Stadium in October 2019, received a lofty citation that stated: “With the Scottish Premiership on its winter hiatus for at least another week, Joe Aribo’s absence for AFCON won’t hit too hard for Rangers.
“Obviously the decision to bring the break forward due to COVID-19 means the key midfielder will miss a handful of games, Rangers have ample depth to cover the Nigerian’s absence.
“Aribo ranks second for league goals (6) and third for assists (3) of all Gers players this season, and Nigeria will be hoping he can transfer that goal threat to the international stage, starting with the blockbuster meeting with Egypt next week.”
